Often described as a peaceful coastal village, High Newton has the best of all worlds - walking distance to a choice of beaches, the National Trust protected sand dunes with numerous footpaths to explore, birds and wildlife are always visible from the hide at Newton Pond Nature Reserve, a village pub close at hand, on a rural bus route and although popular in the high season certainly not commercialised! Only 20 minutes drive from Alnwick, home to the Duke of Northumberland, visit Alnwick Castle, Gardens, Museum and the Famous "Barter Books" second hand Bookshop. Or leave the car behind for the day and walk a circular route along the Coastal paths to Embleton, Dunstanburgh Castle and on to Craster - home of the famous Craster Kippers ! |
