A short stroll along the River Coquet takes you to the village centre with its mediaeval castle, Norman church, boutique shopping and an array of fine country restaurants and pubs. Unspoilt Warkworth beach is only a short distance away - ideal for walks, picnics and surfing - and a short drive inland takes you to the market town of Alnwick, home to the famous Castle and gardens. Warkworth is a central location for exploring the Northumbrian coastline both north to Craster, Embleton, Seahouses and Bamburgh, as well as south to Amble, Cresswell and beyond.
Equipped to a high standard, Barn Owl Cottage features a wood burning stove and modern country furnishings, as well as outside facilities including a hot tub, barbecue and hen coup for the collection of lovely fresh eggs for breakfast! This barn conversion offers a unique layout in living space, combined with modern facilities in traditional style. The cottage is fully double glazed and has gas central heating. It is available for parties of 2-4 people but can be booked with its next door neighbour, Snowy Owl Cottage, for larger numbers of up to 8, for that memorable holiday in Northumberland.
From the entrance porch:
direct access into the spacious lounge filled with natural daylight and furnished to a high standard including: a feature wood burning stove (initial supply of logs provided), grandfather clock, writing bureau, board games, TV and DVD player.
the kitchen / dining area with views to open countryside is situated a few steps down from the entrance porch, is furnished with a farmhouse table and 4 chairs, with matching Welsh dresser, plus a Belfast sink. There is a range of modern appliances including: washing machine, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, microwave, bread maker, toaster, kettle, slow cooker, gas hob and electric oven.
the ground floor family bathroom is also accessed from the entrance porch and has a large double enclosed shower cubicle, WC, wash and basin and shaver point.
The two bedrooms are situated up a small flight of stairs from the entrance porch and have views over fields and open meadow.
Bedroom 1: the master bedroom has a double bed, double wardrobe, dressing table with cosmetic sundries, and a full size cot.
Bedroom 2: the twin bedroom is furnished with two full size single beds, double wardrobe, and bedside storage drawers.
Outside facilities include:
personal seating area with wooden outdoor table and chairs at your immediate cottage entrance,
a secure enclosed children's garden play area with swings and climbing frame,
a BBQ enclosure to catch the evening sunsets and,
a hot tub within a summerhouse. A complimentary hot tub session is included, and additional sessions are offered through a bookings service

We would strongly recommend Barn Owl cottage to other families with young children. The location is lovely both for the countryside feel while not being far from Warkworth and the accommodation gives enough space including outdoor play space for the kids. Our only disappointment was the small double bed, but that aside we very much enjoyed our stay. The owners are very welcoming, friendly and helpful which made the whole experience a smooth one.
